August 2020 Dear Parents /Guardians, Greetings and welcome to a new school year at Saint Michael the Archangel School! I want to thank Rev. Michael C. Dilorio, for his great support of our school. I also want to thank you for registering your child for another super year at SMA school! We are very busy preparing for a safe opening of the new 2020/2021 school year. Our SMA School Safety plan is posted and may be viewed on our website at www.sma-pa.org. I am a member of the Archdiocese Task Force and we formed a new SMA Coronavirus Task Force that has been meeting the last five weeks and that committee will continue throughout the year. SMA School will offer in building five day a week instruction with an Individual Learning Distance plan option. See below for sign-up sheet. If we are required to go total virtual SMA is fully prepared to do that. Our Distance Learning Program was a “shining star” in our Bucks County area and will continue to do so. Also I just received this email from Pennsbury school District:
Good afternoon, Thank you very much for sharing your SMA Health and Safety Plan with me and our Nurse Coordinator, Mrs. McGinnis.
The procedures and processes you have in place are very similar to what our District has in our plan for when our students return. I feel confident that our School Health personnel will be safe when they report to your school to deliver services.
We are anxiously awaiting our delivery of PPE and will prepare to have items for the SMA Health Room Office for your first day of school.

DISMISSALTHE SAFETY OF OUR PARKING LOT DURING CAR LINE DISMISSAL IS OF UTMOST IMPORTANCE TO US. Students exit: (See above) All cars picking up students are to line up in our school parking lot across from the A - B - C Doors. PLEASE REALIZE THAT NO ONE MAY PARK NEAR CATHOLIC SOCIAL SERVICES OR GYM SIDE PARKING LOTS. THERE IS NO MOVING WHILE ANY CHILD IS STILL WALKING BETWEEN CARS. EVERYONE MUST EXIT USING THE DRIVEWAY WITH THE TRAFFIC LIGHT. Car line students are not to walk to other lots. This creates a safety hazard for the children. The car line moves out quickly enough so no one needs to be inconvenienced. If everyone follows the correct procedures things will move smoothly and efficiently. The safety of our children is a prime concern of SMA School.
UNIFORMS Students are expected to be in proper uniform beginning on the first day of school. Please review the SMA School uniform policy, as it will be strictly enforced. The SMA Uniform Code is posted on our school website at www.sma-pa.org.
LUNCH ALL SMA NDS HOT LUNCHES ARE FREE AND WILL BEGIN THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL 9/9/20 GRADES 1-8 AND 9/10/20 PREK/K. Lunch regulations and rules will be sent home in an information pack and will be online. We welcome Corie DeStefano back as our NDS Director! Please note: no fast food lunches or soda products are permissible in the SMA Lunch Program. NEW: Lunch All students will eat in the Church Hall on a staggered schedule. Mrs. DeStefano is implementing table spacing. The children will stand on the circles in the cafeteria to keep social distance while in line. Hot lunch will be available on cardboard disposal trays. The lunch periods will be extended to assist with social distancing. Recess – Each grade will keep to their cohort. Students will play games that may keep social distance. Each grade could have a bin with their equipment. Additional Points:
Students will wash hands before lunch.
Students should stay in their cohort as they eat lunch, separate from other cohorts as much as possible.
There should not be any shared meals.
Meals and utensils will be served prepackaged.
Students will wash hands after lunch.
Students will go to recess using the procedures established in school operations regarding movement in the building.
Students will wash/sanitize their hands before going to recess and before returning to class.
Students will not need to wear masks while at recess with their cohort if they are playing socially distant activities. If they are unable to be with their cohort, students should wear masks during recess.
Equipment will be sanitized before each recess.
BREAKFAST ALL STUDENTS ATTENDING SMA SCHOOL MAY ALSO RECEIVE A FREE BREAKFAST EACH MORNING.
For the lower grades, we will take breakfast orders the week before and deliver them in crates directly to the classrooms. That way, the children will not have to stand in line to get their food. Upper grades will have crates sent up to the second floor.
DISCIPLINE Please note: SMA School has a very strict no-bully policy. VIOLENT / THREATENING/ HARASSING AND INAPPROPRIATE CONDUCT will not be tolerated.
EARLY PICKUP Parents/Guardians must send a note to the teacher if a child is being picked up early. If your child is going home with someone other than parents/legal guardians or if a student is changing the way they are going home, SMA School must be notified in writing. This is a very important security issue. Please note: all person(s) picking up a child early will need ID. SMA School Additional Points Arrival:
BUSES K- 8 Students will enter through the “Parkway Doors”
CAR LINES: “A” Doors / “Main Doors”
PreK Staggered Times (See PreK)
No safeties will be present on the car line.
Student Safeties only on buses.
There will be no safeties in the classrooms in the afternoon.
Dismissal: PreK will use their normal exit. 1 / 3 / 7 / 8 Grades will exit the “A” doors. 2 / 4 / 5 / 6 Grades will exit the “B” doors. Kindergarten dismiss “C” Doors.
All K-8 parents will park in the normal car dismissal line.
Health Checks:
Teachers will do at least two health checks a day.
One after morning announcements and one after lunch.
SMA School Building Closure:
If SMA School is compelled to close again due to government regulations related to COVID, all students will have access to the teacher’s instruction and assignments through learning platforms. SMA Google School. The students will already be familiar with the use of these systems and the devices and therefore should be able to function independently, depending on age and development during the closure.
Parents will call or email the teacher to report their child attendance.
Classroom Celebrations:
Sharing of food, (cupcakes or other homemade treats) will not be allowed. Homeroom parents can provide individually wrapped, prepackaged treats to the homeroom teacher in advance for use in classroom parties. Volunteer homeroom helpers will not be allowed into the classroom. This would break the cohort.
Large Group Events:
Events with large groups of people, which bring in people from various locations, would also break the cohort and be in violation or the regulations, therefore events which traditionally have occurred will be discontinued for the school year or restructured to be provided virtually.
SMA Back to School Night 9/17/20:
Virtual 6:00 – 7:00 / 7:00 – 8:00.
Parent Teachers Conferences:
Parent teacher conferences will be held by phone with appointments during the times scheduled for these conferences.
Band:
Our Band Provider has constructed a virtual lesson plan for our students.
Our Goal
While it is our intention to remain open for the entire school year, we are implementing these strategies to ensure uninterrupted, effective, quality Catholic education in various scenarios.
Parents are encouraged to choose the best options for their child’s needs and their family needs.
Accommodations will be made for families who require virtual instruction during certain times or to address health and emotional well-being concerns.
This is a constantly evolving situation and SMA School will continue to adapt so that we can provide the least restrictive, continuous educational program for our students.
Thank you! God bless, SMA School

SMA Parent / Guardian Check Health Agreement Form
Partnership – Catholic elementary schools are inherently a partnership between the parents and the school. At Saint Michael’s we value this greatly. This is never more important than at this time and an even greater partnership is now needed. It is our goal to open this school year and to remain open. This cannot be possible unless the school and the parents agree to the importance of monitoring your child’s health daily. Most importantly, this means that children who are experiencing symptoms – such as fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea, parents need to keep their child home until medically cleared to return to school. With parental cooperation in this matter, we will be able to keep our school open and safe. As a parent/guardian, I accept this duty to check the health of my child/children in the morning of every school day of the school year. I will check for symptoms – such as fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea and will not send my child/children if experiencing the above signs. I pledge support for this mission of this school and by enrolling my child I commit myself to uphold this agreement every day before I send my child / children to SMA School

Dear Mr. DiCicco, Please inform the parents who drop their children off at St Michael's school to, please, be observant of the School speed limit. It is clearly marked by signs with flashing lights. Always better to be safe than sorry. Thanking you, in advance, for your attention to this matter. Mary Ann S Gahagan Tullytown Borough Council
The car line moves out quickly enough so no one needs to be inconvenienced. If everyone follows the correct procedures things will move smoothly and efficiently.
Morning car line procedures: All cars are to go around the convent and stop at the main door. The children will go directly to their classrooms. Morning prayers and the Pledge of Allegiance will be announced over the PA system. (All children are to enter using the main front door. Children may get out of the car between A and B door and walk along the side of the building to enter using the correct door. For the safety of the children, children should exit the car on the side closest to the school. Please keep the car line moving, you should stop only one time, allowing the children to exit wherever the car stops. Children will then enter through the front door. They will then go directly to their classroom for morning prayers. Front doors will close at 8:30 and our morning prayers will begin. Any student who is not present by 8:30 will be considered late.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation in making our entrance and dismissal run smoothly! God bless, Mr. Stephen D. DiCicco ~ Principal
REMINDER DISMISSAL SMA SCHOOL
CAR LINE
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Greetings! Please take a few minutes to review the DISMISSAL policy with your child/children. The safety of our children is a top priority for SMA School.
****** THE SAFETY OF OUR PARKING LOT DURING CAR LINE DISMISSAL IS OF UTMOST IMPORTANCE TO US. Students Grades 1-8 exit "A" Doors for car line pickup. All cars picking up students are to line up in our school parking lot across from the A - B - C Doors.
